The
history of the Three-B stud
TThe
Three-B stud was established in 1972 with the foundation mare Cora,
a daughter of Zilversmid 8. This in 1968 born Welsh Sec.B mare
was bred in Germany and her pedigree was mostly Sec.B. During her
lifetime she bred 18 foals, first of Sec.B’s, later Welsh
Partbreds. Her first two foals, the geldings Wilco by Limbra's
Wilco and Three-B Black Mane by Black Magic, were the first competition
ponies of the owners daughters.
They won many prizes in dressage and show jumping until the riders
were grown out.
In 1976 Cora's first Partbred foal Three-B Valentina by Oakley Bubbling
Bobbety was born. This 14.1 hands mare won several ridden and dressage
classes before aged 8 bred her first foal Three-B Rodina by Rubin.
Rodina and her full sister Three-B Rhiat both were successful in
harness and dressage. Valenina's son Three-B Black Diamond by Trefaes
Magic (Welsh Cob) is competing in dressage classes with his new owner
in Germany.
Two other sons of Valentina Three-B Night Safe and Three-B Night
Star both by Catherston Night Safe became high quality dressage ponies.
Valentina's last daughter by Starlight Supreme Three-B Valentina's
Last started her successful career in show jumping and dressage in
2000.
Two other famous Partbreds were Three-B Valerian by Oakley Bubbling
Bobberty and his son Three-B Roger. Valerian became National and
European Dressage Champion under Nicole Hintenlang and his son is
still competing in high dressage classes.
Until 2004 Birgit Reipen was still training some of the Three-B Partbreds
as Three-B Corduno and Three-B Corvina by Three-B Roger before Corvina
was sold to a young rider of the National Pony Show Jumping Team.
Corvina became one of the top class show jumpers and won in 2004
the Championship of the Best .
In 1977 K.H. Reipen saw at a stud near the Dutch boarder the Welsh
Mountain Pony stallion Polly Rhyddod's Minco a son of Rhydyfelin
Sean.
Minco already aged 11 was a great winner in harness with his former
owner Mrs. Janssen. Because of the owners age she sold Minco to Mr.
Reipen and Minco became the foundation stallion of the Three-B Mountain
ponies. First he started a new career as a show stallion and was
already 1978 reserve National Champion. In 1979 he became Champion
at the International show in Baden-Baden under the well known judge
Mrs. Anne Muir. Beside showing he became a great stock getter, here
only some of his stock named: His daughter Three-B Mandy, many times
Champion in Germany, her son Three-B Madog, one of the stud stallions
or Three-B Maybee, winner of many lead rein classes.
Minco aged 31 made his long trip from Germany back into his home
country Wales where he was running with his mares until he quietly
died at the 23rd of July 2005 aged 39. He was buried under an old
tree overlooking the fields where his offspring carries on his breeding.
In 1987 the colt Three-B Barrog by Payland's Boxer was born and he
later became the most famous Mountain Pony of the stud.
Since he was three years of age he was unbeaten by any other stallion
in Germany. In 1992 when he was only 5 he became second at the International
Show held in Peterbourough, England. In 1994 and 1995 was produced
by Collin Tibbey and won the bronze medal both years. In 1996 just
back to Germany he became National Overall Champion with his son
three-B Mandy's Boy as Reserve Male Champion. During the years Barrog
won many Championships in Germany, Holland and Belgium before he
retired in 2001. Now running with his mares. But not only as a show
stallion Barrog was successful also his stock are doing well in the
show ring. His first son Three-B Mandy's Boy (only four years younger
as his sire) out of Three-B Mandy won many championships in Germany
and became Reserve Young Stock Champion at the International Show
in Switzerland 1994. In 1998 he was 7th at Lampeter Stallion Show.
In 2000 he won the Royal Welsh Show under saddle, as well as many
other shows in hand and under saddle include winning the bronze medal.
In 2002 he became 2nd in the senior stallion class at the Royal Welsh
Show with handler Adrian Bowen before moving to New Zealand early
in 2003. In 2005 Mandy's Boy became Champion Sec A and B and Reserve
Overall Champion at the North Island Show in Hamilton, New Zealand.
His full sister Three-B Best Girl became at the same show 2nd at
her first time out.
Another well known offspring of Barrog is the 1993 born Three-B Ballerina
who won the yearling class at the International Show in Switzerland
1996 as a three year old she was with Collin Tibbey and won several
shows in GB including a bronze medal. Later she became the most successful
Mountain Pony mare in Germany winning loads of championships including
the International Merlot show in the Netherlands in 2000. In 2005
just a few weeks back to Wales she became 3rd at the Royal Welsh
Show in the brood mare class.
All her offspring became well known show ponies as Three-B Pioneer,
Three-B Jazmine (Reserve Supreme National Foal Champion, now in Austria),
Three-B Serena (lead rein champion), Three-B Tybreak (Champion foal
2003) and Three-B Timmy Thomas who was 2nd at the Royal Welsh Show
2005 (91 entries).
Her first foal Three-B Justyn by Lacy Justyn (Royal Welsh Champion)
is one of the today's stud stallions.
In 1997 Three-B Brian by Barrog was born and showed his quality already
as foal winning loads of foal championships. In 2000 he became second
at the International Show in the Netherlands only beaten by the former
Royal Welsh Young Stock Champion. In 2002 he won the Overall Supreme
Championship at the German National Show at Aachen. In 2003 he became
3rd at the International Show at Aachen standing next to a three
times Royal Welsh Champion and the Dutch National Champion. In 2005
just over to Wales he became 9th at the Royal Welsh Show. His half
sister Three-B Belinda out of Colne Henol born 2000 won the foal
class at the International Show in Holland. Three-B Selina out of
LacyBeth won the Government Premium Show 2000 as Best Welsh Pony
with her half sister Three-B Bridget out of Colne Henol Reserve.
Bridget then sold to Berlin carried on winning championships under
saddle and in hand. In 2004 Mandy's Boy's full brother Three-B Birthday
Boy was born and he started his career with a gold medal at the Government
foal show. He will be kept at stud in Wales.
To get fresh bloodlines into the breed the German stud bought in
2001 then already well known Nantdywyll Tywysog only 2 years of age.
At the stallion show in Aachen November 2001 he received his licence
and became Best Welsh Mountain Pony Stallion . In 2002 he became
Overall Supreme Champion at the Native Pony Show at Equitana Open
Air/Germany. His first foal Three-B Tomboy out of Three-B Selina
born 2002 became best colt foal of all breeds at the Government show
and started in 2005 his ridden career with his new owner. His half
brother Three-B Tybreak out of Three-B Ballerina born 2003 followed
with the same success and further became Supreme Champion foal with
a gold medal. After finishing the International show in Aachen with
a second place he was sold to become the foundation stallion at a
new Mountain Pony stud in Germany. His full brother Three-B Timmy
Thomas, 2nd Royal Welsh 2005, will be kept at stud in Wales. Three-B
Tyson out of Polaris Rambling Rose won the same in 2004 and is still
at stud because his colour is black.
The stud stallions in 2005 are Three-B Madog and Three-B Mandy's
Boy in New Zealand and Three-B Barrog, Three-B Brian, Three-B Justyn
and Nantdywyll Tywysog in Wales.
Since 1982 the Three-B stud is further concentrating in breeding
Welsh Cobs. Here was always important to breed a useful Cob for riding
and harness.
The foundation stallion Trefaes Magic started a line of good prospects
for this. Two of his sons Three-B Magic and Three-B More Magic are
successful in pair driving in Germany.
The 1996 born Three-B Halloween Lady a grand daughter of Trefaes
Magic was Champion Welsh Cob at the German Government Premium Show
2000 and the Pony Festival 2000. In 2001 she started to compete in
harness with great success. Her half sister Three-B Marian, sold
to Austria, went the same way after winning in hand as a youngster.
In 2001 the beautiful chestnut filly Three-B Magic Lady by H/S Marvel
out of the old-fashioned Llangybi Shan was born. With only 6 weeks
of age she won the gold medal and became best filly foal of all breeds
at the Government Foal Show. In 2002 she became Overall Junior Champion
of all Native Breeds at the Equitana Open Air/Germany.
In 2004 she was the first Welsh Cob mare to pass the 21 day test
for hunter mares at the Rhineland Society base. Two month later she
won the show for young mares with the highest notes of all breeds
and went from there straight to win the Premium Show in Aachen.
In 2002 the young mare Llangybi Diva was bought closed related to
the old mare Shan. In 2004 her first foal by Marvel was born and
he started his career with gold medal and Reserve Supreme Colt Foal
of all breeds. His full sister Three-B Moreen born 2005 will be kept
as a future brood mare.
Shortly after his arrival in New Zealand “Glantraeth King Flyer” became
Supreme Champion at the North Island Welsh Show and 6 weeks later
he was able to win the Horse of the Year Show 2004 at Hastings, New
Zealand. In 2005 he became again Supreme Champion at the North Island
Show at Hamilton.
The today's stud stallions are Glantreath King Flyer, Glantreath
